Role Summary:

As a Regulatory Toxicologist, you will help generate and evaluate data to substantiate the safety of products globally – by performing regulatory toxicology assessments, interpreting global requirements and ensuring our products are safe and our product claims are valid, prior to product launch. This position requires knowledge of toxicology principles and involves application of Lubrizol chemistry knowledge to the requirements of evolving global chemical control laws and product safety assessments. This is a 1 year assignment with a possible 2 nd year extension, based at our European marketing and technical centre located in Hazelwood, a rural location eight miles from Derby city centre.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Support a team of toxicologists in overseeing human, environmental, and physical chemical testing projects with 3rd party laboratories including assessment of new data to meet regulatory reporting obligations

  • Help analyze and interpret test results in preparation for submission to regulatory agencies globally with an emphasis on REACH

  • Contribute to the development and execution of product defense and problem solving strategies using toxicology, chemistry, and other scientific disciplines

  • Additional responsibilities may include toxicology consultation for internal businesses, assistance in report writing, literature searches, data gap analysis, product risk assessments, product stewardship initiatives and regulatory dossier preparation

Requirements – Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Toxicology, Pharmacology, or related biological science

  • Strong background in chemistry

  • Sound understanding of toxicology principles/practices and the scientific basis for toxicity testing

  • Strong Interest in learning how to design, monitor and interpret data from human health and environmental toxicology testing programs to evaluate and assess risks

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks, work with cross functional teams, and working within tight deadlines and changing priorities

  • Strong computer literacy including use of relational databases

  • Must be a self-starter, detail-oriented, results oriented, and comfortable working in a team environment

Considered a plus:

  • PhD in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Industrial or Environmental Health Sciences or related biological science discipline with an emphasis in Toxicology

  • Toxicology experience in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry, or related industry sectors

  • Knowledge of regulatory and data requirements for global new chemical notification dossiers as well as regulatory initiatives including REACH

  • Demonstrated competencies conducting human health and environmental risk assessments
