New Business Development Manager, 3D Printing

Location: Brecksville - OH, USA


The fast-growing industry of 3D Printing (also called Additive Manufacturing) is one of the identified strategic business development areas for Lubrizol. As Business Development Manager, you are responsible for further expanding our organization’s technology/capability portfolio to effectively position ourselves as a full solution provider in this industry. The NBDM responsibilities, include but are not limited to, assessing market development opportunities, creating and implementing business development strategies, and leading growth initiatives that would position Lubrizol for sustainable profitable growth. Additionally, developing a 360 understanding our current position regarding the 3DP market, identifying our current capability gaps and validating potential partners, recommending preferred partnerships, business structure and potential venture investment opportunities. This position would ensure full integration and execution of agreed upon business plans to maximize the value the structure and partnerships bring to Lubrizol.


  • Gather & synthesize industry information from research sources including Internet, trade publications, industry reports, and trade shows

  • Develop in-depth knowledge with the goal to understand market size, trends, potential, profits, requirements, key players, and opportunities, resulting in a regional and/or global strategy for that market

  • Identify any gaps in our existing 3DP capabilities and develop action plans to address those gaps.

  • Utilize your business and analytical skills to deliver a solid, defensible analysis of the 3DP solution provider landscape.

  • Work closely with the global 3D Printing technical team

  • Draft executive summaries of potential partner/acquisition candidates, highlighting their unique characteristics.

  • Select top candidates and provide compelling business case, supporting the partnership structure recommendation

  • Create value through market intimacy and innovation by understanding global and regional market trends, customer unmet needs, assess market potential, identify and develop target sub-segments through value and opportunity analysis, and define marketing strategy

  • Identify and lead innovation and growth opportunities that align with segment strategy and will result in sustained profitable growth

  • Propose, develop and implement business development plans to achieve the business strategy and their objectives

  • Ensure execution and integration of the recommended plans.


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical field (such as chemistry, chemical or mechanical engineering) or Business Administration, Finance or Sales/Marketing. An advanced degree is strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of 3D Printing experience and industry knowledge.

  • Proven track record of success at developing and implementing effective business development strategies, managing product lines and/or budgets. Work within a Start-up is a plus

  • Successfully demonstrated B2B market development & market research/analysis capability

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix organization and business team environment

  • Experience working through legal processes to develop a new business

  • Willing to travel 40%-60%
