Quality Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The Elmendorf Quality Manager has the overall responsibility of directing technical efforts and projects at the Elmendorf Plant that lead to continuous process improvement, cost reduction, environmental regulatory compliance, meeting product quality requirements and process safety compliance. This position also has the responsibility of providing resources and oversight of the plant quality control laboratory and ISO activities. The position reports to the Plant Manager.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves on the plant leadership team

  • Be a visible, strong safety leader. Promote the best safety and process safety concepts & practices that achieve consistent, excellent performance.

  • Catalyst for engagement and change, particularly for safety and productivity / systems enhancements

  • Plan and direct plant technical activities and projects. Be a strong contributor to the capital planning process. Implement chemistry for new or transfer products. Troubleshooting, process and product improvement.

  • Lead efforts and work with, process engineer, project coordinator and other plant key personnel to identify, prioritize and assist in executing process improvement and cost reduction efforts that will yield the most value to the business.

  • Leader of the continuous improvement process for all chemical operations at the plant

  • Cost reduction

  • Environmental regulatory compliance

  • Lead planning and audit efforts to assure we are achieving compliance and improvement in the areas of environmental and process safety compliance. ISO and TSCA

  • Assure that our SAP process chemistry data and recipes are accurate and updated as needed

  • Assure we have the QC resources and equipment to meet product quality requirements and ISO 9002 activities

  • Address and resolve customer complaints related to quality issues. CRM process

  • Address corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) for process improvement, conduct root cause investigations develop and actuate appropriate action plans. ETQ CAPA

  • For technical or HSES incident investigations, this position also guides, assigns and directs completion of technical investigations or Root Cause Analysis’.

  • responsible for the oversight of the quality group

  • Empowering the team to be leaders

  • Ultimate authority on making processing decisions on batch samples

  • Training, supporting, and supervising quality technicians

  • In addition, grow and develop all team members (i.e., career management, coaching / feedback, performance, etc.)

Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required, Masters a plus

5+ years’ experience in a chemical operations environment

Prior demonstrated leadership experience required – management of direct reports / small team

Skills:

Excellent communicator

Strong computer skills

SAP expert

Knowledge of batch chemical manufacturing process

Process chemistry knowledge

Demonstrated use of root cause analysis and process hazard analysis methodologies

Someone who is an expert troubleshooter, not afraid to get hands dirty and step up to a problem with potential solutions

Desire to identify continuous improvement opportunities and lead projects to make improvements to processes, procedures, etc.
