Summary of Responsibilities:

The role of the Process Engineer is to provide multifaceted engineering support for the manufacture of active ingredients. The Process Engineer will be responsible to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the process to reduce cost, improve productivity, operate more efficiently, and strive to reduce non-value added activities. Additional responsibilities are to assist in the daily operations of the plant, to assist in the efforts for product quality improvements, to assist in the day to day operations to support business goals, and to help to scale up new products. This role includes the use of structured problem solving and the use of statistical process control techniques.

Essential Job Functions:


  • Provide technical support and expertise through product and process understanding. Lead quality and operational improvement teams for continuous improvement.

·Provide engineering support to refine current manufacturing processes.

  • Monitor and maximize process uptime, reliability, and capacity utilization.

·Evaluate current processes and suggest/implement process improvements to improve product quality and decrease cycle time and cost.

·Evaluate current manufacturing equipment for opportunities to install instrumentation and controls.

·Work with local plant management and the project group to develop and define the scope of projects.

·Develop detailed schedules and project tracking methods to accurately report progress, milestones, or project hindrances.

  • Provide daily process and product troubleshooting and mentoring for operations and maintenance staffs.

  • Provide process and product support in the implementation for new products. Provide support for improvements to existing products.

  • Maintain operating procedures and provide training for process operators.

  • Identify and provide justification for capital projects for process improvements.

·Work with project group and plant personnel on projects from R&D to design/modify production equipment.

  • Provide engineering support to refine current manufacturing processes, with special attention to Process Safety Management (PSM) and OSHA requirements.

  • Use and maintain systems associated with the Quality Management System (ISO 9001), Process Safety Management System, Process Hazard Analysis, etc.

  • Identify and provide technical expertise to support safety improvement, optimization and risk reduction opportunities.

  • Evaluate current processes and suggest/implement process improvements that enhance product quality, process safety and environmental compliance.

·Must understand and comply with all safety rules and company policies of Lubrizol.

·Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.


  • Investigate, record, and respond to customer complaints in a timely fashion.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives in the areas of quality, productivity, cost efficiency. Maintain Engineering Quantity Standards (EQS) for product costing purposes.

  • Provide inputs to Key Performance Indicators related to production efficiency.

  • Use, maintain, and assist on systems associated with ISO9001:2015, Management of Change, Process Safety Management, Manufacturing Authorizations, and Responsible Care.

  • Interacts with SAP and Business Warehouse to input and extract data relevant to role. REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering with five to eight years of experience in a manufacturing/chemical or process industry setting.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Good overall leadership skills and the ability to influence across peer group

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, motivational, and team building skills.

  • Strong PC skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) BENEFICIAL SKILLS:

  • Background in Lean fundamentals

  • Demonstrate at least Green Belt level command of statistics and data collection and analysis


  • Vision correctable to 20/20.

  • Hearing correctable to unamplified human voice.

  • Excellent manual dexterity

  • Ability to meet safety, regulatory, and health guidelines

  • Continuous mental/visual concentration
