Main Purpose :

  • To provide Technical guidance and support; working on site-based manufacturing processes to ensure efficiency & quality goals are met by supporting local site management and staff.

  • To continually improve the sites manufacturing processes to reduce costs without compromising Health & Safety or Quality.

Role accountabilities:

  • Reviews innovative technology & best manufacturing practice to ensure new potential efficiency opportunities are leveraged to best advantage.

  • Monitor & give problem solving assistance for all Technical aspects of the manufacturing process giving regular feedback to managers through bulletins & reports.

  • Plans, implements, and coordinates laboratory technical projects for improving plant throughput, quality & raw material utilisation.

  • Actively participates at relevant technical, engineering & continuous improvement meetings including interpreting and presenting data for performance improvement.

  • Coaches/guides managers, supervisors and operators on Technical process aspects including training to increase awareness and impact of process chemistry on plant throughput, quality & raw material utilisation.

Expertise, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Honours degree in chemistry.

  • Bench (small scale) & Semi-tech (20 litre) scale experimental laboratory experience.

  • Experience in designing and planning work programs.

  • Conversant with the use of spreadsheets & statistical software for the analysis of data.

  • Basic problem solving skills that follow a methodical approach/system (Six Sigma, LEAN, etc.)

  • Able to take both a lead & support role in the areas of project management & problem solving, using interdepartmental/cross-functional site teams.

  • Networking, interpersonal & presentational skills to support the requirement of a shared Technical service function that has numerous customers.

Based at the Mostyn Site, the role requires an academic knowledge of chemistry coupled with practical knowledge of laboratory techniques gained through actual laboratory experience. A good standard of interpersonal skills is required to be able to communicate, influence & coach, in what is a team-based & multifunctional role.

The Mostyn site is located in a small village in Flintshire, North Wales lying on the estuary of the River Dee. This beautiful Welsh Border county has a countryside and coast enriched by a fascinating history with castles dating back to the 13th century and Abbey churches from the 7th century. Excellent road and rail links make it easily accessible, 27 miles from the historic Roman city of Chester with Liverpool and Manchester within a 1 to 1.5 hours’ drive.

Sitting to the west of the county the Snowdonia National Park can be reached in under an hour offering amazing scenery, superb hill climbing, world class mountain bike trails, surfing off the Llyn Peninsular and the Cambrian coastline with big beaches and small coves.
