Engineering Manager

Job Summary:

The Engineering Services Manager has overall responsibility and accountability for all aspects of project engineering and associated operations. The Engineering Services Manager is responsible for providing leadership, guidance and direction to employees in the Engineering Services group. The Engineering Services Manager is responsible for ensuring consistent, safe and environmentally conscious design practices. Engineering Services manager shall strive for timely, cost effective, reliable project designs and continuous improvement to maximize efficiency of project execution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Ensure that the entirety of his/her organization embraces the vision of the Painesville plant and the corporation, setting clear expectations and ensuring goals are met.

  • Provide strategic leadership, ensuring that all of the information required to achieve the plant’s, department’s and group’s goals is available to, and understood by, all involved.

  • Accountable for the development and maintainenace of the plant stragtegic plans for electrical infrastructure and control systems.

  • Promote and support the group’s efforts to achieve success in environmental, health, safety and security performance, providing visible safety leadership and taking corrective and preventive action as appropriate.

  • Fill the assigned role during emergencies at the Emergency Control Center.

  • Maintain a positive work environment/culture that fosters efficiency, effectiveness and high morale while ensuring that all employees are treated fairly and equitably.

  • Train, monitor, encourage and assist in the technical development of direct reports.

  • Work in conjunction with Manufacturing leadership to build succession plans for the engineers in both groups, including evaluation of co-ops, participation in recruiting, providing varied work experiences for development of personnel, supporting and promoting training, and ensuring that all direct reports utilize the PCM process at least annually.

  • Actively participate in the Painesville Project Priorities Committee.

  • Promote collaborative interaction between engineering and maintenance organizations while acting as advocate for department and department design standards.

  • Develop and manage the Engineering Services budget.

  • Along with the Capital Program Mannager, support annual spend and authorization plans and issue monthly spending and authorization reports for Engineering Services.

  • Develop, communicate, and monitor project construction manpower requirements.

  • Report project progress to Painesville Plant management.

  • Assign project work to appropriate project managers. Assignments will be based on direction obtained from the Painesville Project Priorities Committee.

  • Accountable for maximizing approval of capital funding.

  • Develop and maintain department standards for equipment, department processes and procedures. Includes, but not limited to, design, calculation, record keeping, and maintenenance information.

  • Provide necessary support for non-routine tasks, shutdowns, and upset conditions, including outside of normal working hours.

  • Monitor and mentor professional development of reports.

  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators for the project team

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Qualifications, Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a supervisory or management position.

  • Minimum of 15 years' experience managing capital projects of increasing complexity

  • Proven project management skills

  • Desire to lead people

  • Ability to lead complex projects, communicate effectively, solve problems, and develop engineering processes

  • Experience with construction and/or maintenance activities planning

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project and SAP

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to make timely, consistent, data driven decisions

Considered A Plus:

  • Possess a Professional Engineer’s License in the State of Ohio

Working Conditions:

  • Mainly an office environment but ability to work in construction area.

  • Must be willing/able to work in a plant environment.

  • Work is performed within a controlled environment; noise levels in some areas require hearing protection.

  • Must be willing/able to be exposed to inclement weather while moving throughout the plant during the work day as required.

  • Expected to wear all required PPE.
