Chemtool Incorporated in Rockton, Illinois is currently recruiting for a General Accounting Manager. If you have at least five years of experience in a general accounting role and are looking to lead others in addition to your accounting responsibilities, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

The purpose of the position of the General Accounting Manager is to support the overall Finance organization with active engagement in the day-to-day accounting activities of the business. This position is responsible for oversight of all accounting activities including: monthly close, various ad-hoc analysis (revenue, expense, profitability), accruals, intercompany reconciliations, process review and improvement, general reporting, and financial controls.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and strong management skills. This person must be a strong team player, detail oriented with good analytical and problem solving skills. It is critical for this person to have a “hands on” approach and be willing to handle multiple responsibilities at a time.

Essential Job Functions

All the specific responsibilities listed below are core activities of the position. The listing is representative, but not necessarily all-inclusive. The General Accounting Manager will be expected to complete additional responsibilities as assigned.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the General Accounting team.

  • Lead the monthly close process and ensure all activities are in compliance with company policy/GAAP procedures.

  • Comply with federal/state tax reporting requirements. Support Corporate tax filing efforts.

  • Interact with Corporate headquarters personnel in response to inquiries and requests for support.

  • Provide and coordinate routine monthly reports/submissions to internal and Corporate customers.

  • Maintain and manage an effective financial controls program including testing and audit support as needed.

  • Routinely review and test processes to ensure they are effective, accurate and efficient.

  • Support overall finance objectives/deliverables as needed.

  • Mentor and develop General Accounting team.

  • Work collaboratively with other business functions in support of business objectives.

Education / Certification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance required.

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in progressively challenging finance/accounting roles.

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office including a high level of proficiency in Excel.

  • Strong working knowledge of SAP or similar ERP system. (JD Edwards, Oracle, SAP).

  • Strong knowledge base of GAAP, effective controllership, financial and operational analysis, cost accounting, and inventory management.

  • Experience in a multi-currency environment a plus.

  • Must possess solid work ethic (self-starter and highly motivated).

  • Excellent positive professional demeanor with emphasis on interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize tasks and meet required deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Detail-oriented.

  • Good leadership qualities, takes initiative and has a “can-do” attitude.
