PMG Grease Research Chemist


Under LZA’s refreshed strategy, Industrial Specialties has been asked to double revenue from $1.0 billion to $2.0 billion by 2028. Grease Additives, a part of Industrial Specialties, is growing significantly (UOI +35% August YTD) and contributing to the aggressive growth target. A large part of Grease’s growth can be attributed to a strong technology team applying powerful and unique internal capabilities to help our customers grow. We currently have an opening for a Research Chemist on the Grease PMG technology team in based Wickliffe, Ohio.

The Grease Research Chemist is a unique role that contributes to results by interfacing with customers, developing customer solutions in the lab and then working with the Grease Commercial team and/or Sales to share those solutions with customers. Much of the work is PAP Type II with opportunities for Type I and Type V commensurate with ability and inclination.

Key Accountabilities

  • Run and own projects

  • Execute grease cooking and blending lab scale, grease testing in lab and additive package blending and qualification

  • Understand Lubrizol chemistry and have a basic understanding of formulation and end use application

  • Move quickly and effectively between projects to meet customer expectations

  • Execute and bring to conclusion customer test requests

  • Support existing products (additive and additive packages)

  • Develop and execute experiments to demonstrate product performance

  • Drive knowledge development and utilize knowledge to solve technical challenges

  • Develop formulations for use with current technology packages for general and customer use

  • Support Grease Commercial and Sales team by providing technical updates and support for customer projects

  • When necessary, interface with customers directly to ensure strong alignment between project execution and customer need

  • Learn and master processes within Lubrizol to carry a project from inception to closure in a timely manner

  • Effectively interface with Operations, R&D, BTS, SRBD, Procurement, Commercial, and Sales

  • Practice Lubrizol Cultural Beliefs


  • PhD in Chemistry or Chemical EngineeringorMS/BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with industrial chemistry experienceorequivalent experience

  • Project management and/or chemical technology development experience – achievement oriented

  • Track record of technically successful projects completed in a timely manner

  • Self-Starter – the ability to work under minimum supervision and be self-driven

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills that enable collaboration with global peers and customers of different backgrounds and cultures

  • Up to 10% domestic and international travel
