The Lubrizol Corporation has an immediate need for highly motivated, results-oriented Lab Technician for our facility located in Wickliffe, Ohio.

What will you do:

  • Work with a group chemists and engineers on a variety of projects- ranging in scope from short-term troubleshooting, to strategic, to long-term fundamental knowledge.

  • Develop a detailed understanding and mastery of a subset of instruments and measurement techniques in the Thermal, Rheology, and Colloids lab and other areas as needed

  • Perform routine and non-routine measurements

  • Assist chemists and engineers in new method development

  • Contribute to safety, quality, housekeeping, environmental and process improvement initiatives.

  • Perform routine troubleshooting and repair on lab equipment.

  • Recognize validity of measurement data and be able to identify root causes of inconsistent data.

  • Keep detailed records of lab work.

  • Understand and perform testing calculations; ability to identify and resolve incorrect calculations and process the calculations manually if necessary.

  • Must be able to identify, troubleshoot, and work closely with customers to resolve issues or problems with testing. Appropriately elevate the situation to lab peers, supervisor and/or customer when necessary.

  • Facilitate sample flow between work area and other areas.

  • Articulate and communicate issues to co-workers, supervisors, and customers. Provide timely status updates. Work with customers on special requests. Follow-up on customer questions or concerns.

  • Update work instructions and procedures as necessary; forward recommended changes to chemists and engineers. Maintain thorough documentation and associated information following Lubrizol quality system guidelines.

  • Analyze and test samples related to the lubrication industry in accordance with standard test methods

  • Enter and upload test data into Excel or Lubrizol internal software.

What you need:

  • Minimum five years of laboratory experience working in an industry or an academic setting.

  • Ability to clearly record and communicate measurement results, as well as issues with equipment and/or measurement procedures

  • Strong organizational skills, including time management and detailed record-keeping

  • Computer skills (MS Office), knowledge of web-enabled LZ mainframe applications; scheduler/inventory, measurements, GBTRS, information warehouse, and MCR.

  • Ability to work with shifting priorities.

  • Track record of customer service.

  • Requires use of appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and adherence to Lab Safety practices to ensure you are properly protected.

  • Use of a variety of different chemicals to complete testing.

  • Independent worker; intuitive; a collaborative approach to team work; strong desire to work and communicate with customers; analytical aptitude; strong multitasking skills.

CONSIDERED A PLUS:

  • Experience with any of the following instrumentation and/or techniques: TGA, DSC, thermal conductivity, particle size analysis, surface tension, interfacial tension, contact angle, rheometers, viscometers, optical microscope, image analysis software or QCM.

  • Ten years relevant lab experience

  • Working knowledge of statistics
